In a country with many people looking for scarce and dignified job opportunities, the chances of getting a job largely depend on whom you know. Most people would greatly appreciate any information about a job, funding or fellowship opportunities. We at Baraza Media Lab receive numerous opportunity requests from people while at the same time also receiving a lot of open opportunities to share with our community. So, we decided to solve our internal challenge by creating an opportunity board for media and creatives across Africa. We aim to solve job information asymmetry by amalgamating all the open roles on the opportunity board. Please visit it to find and share opportunities for your gigs or quick creative and media needs. We will post them and share them with our community of over 3,000 creatives and media in Africa. CC HEVA Fund SemaBOX Africa SNDBX | The Village Experts Mercy Corps Jobtech Alliance

Today at Baraza Media Lab's #WorldPressFreedomDay event, we shine a spotlight on the critical nexus between press freedom and climate change. This is a crucial moment to delve into the challenges journalists face and emphasize the need for accurate, impactful storytelling in climate reporting. #PressFreedom #ClimateReporting #BarazaMediaLab Recent floods in Kenya are highlighting the urgent reality of climate change. Despite Africa's relatively low emissions, the continent's vulnerability underscores the vital role of media coverage in driving awareness and action. Baraza Media Lab remains steadfast in supporting responsible climate reporting and media freedom, empowering journalists to make a meaningful impact. #MediaImpact #ClimateChange #JournalismEmpowerment The theme of this year's World Press Freedom Day resonates profoundly in Africa, where climate change is an immediate threat affecting daily lives and livelihoods. The media's role in highlighting these issues cannot be overstated. However, reporting on environmental and climate issues comes with significant risks. Journalists covering these beats often face physical threats, legal challenges, and misinformation obstacles. Climate misinformation, fueled by politically motivated campaigns, hampers accurate reporting and public understanding of climate issues. As Rebecca Solnit aptly states, "Every crisis is, in part, a storytelling crisis." Baraza Media Lab believes in the transformative power of storytelling, particularly in addressing the climate crisis. This morning, we were joined by investigative journalist and Founder of Africa Uncensored, John-Allan Namu, CEO of the Kenya Editor's Guild, Rosalia Omungo, Manager of Content Regulation at the Communications Authority of Kenya, Rosemary Mwangi for a crucial conversation on climate change reporting and storytelling. The official report from the second edition of the Africa Media Festival is here! This year’s edition followed a different curation process that incorporated ideas and sessions from the broader African media community. We were also keen on having a more “solutions-first” approach which was demonstrated by our preference for workshops, rapid talks and demos over traditional panels. As the conveners of the festival, we are pleased to release this report which features the key learnings and takeaways that emerged. Access the report here: bit.ly/2024AMFReport A special thank you to some of our partners who worked with us to make this second edition a resounding success: Luminate Ford Foundation National Museums of Kenya Google News Initiative International Fund for Public Interest Media International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) Australian High Commission Kenya among others. #AfricaMediaFestival #AMF2024
